Te Puke High School preparing to mark a 100-year milestone

In 2023, Te Puke High School will celebrate 100 years of secondary education in Te Puke. In 1923, a one-room building was erected on the site of Te Puke Primary School to accommodate the first local secondary school students. This secondary part of the school opened for lessons in February of that year with a roll of 41 students. Many of these foundation students still have family in the local area. The school moved to its current Tui St site in 1945, and last recognised a milestone in its history with the 75th jubilee in 1998. The 2023 centenary celebration will be an opportunity for former students and staff to reconnect and reminisce, learn more about developments in both the school campus and approaches to teaching and learning, and acknowledge the important role Te Puke High School plays in the community. Anyone who is keen to be involved in getting this significant community event off the ground is invited to attend a planning meeting at the school’s Student Learning Centre on August 2 at 6.30pm. To register interest in attending, please email the school principal’s PA Linda Horscroft at linda. nz
