King Country reps perform with credit


Although outclassed by the winners North Taranaki, finishing third of the five centres competing for the Zone 3 Paterson Trophy was a commendable performance by the eight bowlers chosen to represent King Country. At the end of four rounds of rinks (fours), pairs and singles, King Country had amassed 63.5 game points behind North Taranaki with 110.5, Manawatu¯ 83.5 and ahead of Wanganui 58.5 and Taranaki 44. The best performed of the two King Country teams was Jim Parsons (skip), Gordon Lang (3), Lyn Martin (2) and Carol Lovell (lead) with 14 wins and a draw while Kevin Marshall, Liz Morrow, Paul Walker and Marlene Walker had 10 wins and 4 draws. Parsons was a late replacement for Blue Hancock. The top point scorer for King Country was Gordon Lang with 18, closely followed by his pairs partner Carol Lovell with 15. Kevin Marshall won all four of his singles games and had a total of 12 points. On a head to head basis King Country defeated Taranaki 20-8, Whanganui 16-12, just missed against Manawatu¯ 13-15 and lost to North Taranaki 24-4.
