Concert raises cash for brigade
Health & Wellbeing
A sell-out charity concert by the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band raised $13,000 for Waikanae Volunteer Fire Brigade to help fund its support services. It was the 13th charity concert to be organised by Waikanae Lions Club, with club president James Lower saying demand was so strong it could have held two concerts at a packed Southwards theatre. This year’s concert, featuring a spectacular entertainment programme, was supported by Richard and Sara Madders of Waikanae Funeral Home. Mr Lower says it was the 13th charity concert to be organised by the Lions Club in support of the Waikanae community and owed a huge vote of thanks to the time voluntarily given up by members of the Air Force Band and sponsors like Waikanae Funeral Home. “A lot of effort goes into organising major events like these and it’s the high public support which keeps us going with events like the annual book sale, the summer garden trail, and charity concerts.” The cheque for $13,000 was presented to station officer Glen Sarcich.
